Some tips for Burnout Management:-

  • Consider dropping down to 3 or 4 days a week. Those extra few days can make a real difference to your well-being. Many companies are supportive of part time work : it costs significantly more to replace you than to tweak your role : especially if you are well respected / loyal.
  • Offload to a work friend (but beware of frenemies!) or compose a letter to the source of your stress to get emotional thoughts out of your head.
  • Work away from your desk for a different perspective : coffee shop, park, rooftop (avoid home, work and personal separation is key)

Managing burnout:-

What’s a burnout: when you feel exhausted, demotivated, frustrated, inability to focus, worthless
Tips re coping
  • Enquire re different responsibilities / dropping down to 3/2 days per week — bear in mind it costs SIGNIFICANTLY more for companies to replace you rather than tweak your role, especially if you’re well respected and talented.
  • Find a friend to offload to (beware of frenemies in the workplace!) — helps release frustration and despair / OR write a letter to the source of the stress to get the emotional thoughts off your chest.
  • Work away from your desk for a different perspective — coffee shop, park, rooftop etc - NOT home, you need to be separating work and home while you feel like this
  • Even though its easier said than done, aim to get plenty of sleep, exercise and eat sensibly - without this love and care how can you expect to rest and repair...

Finding a release for your stress:-

  • Find an activity that allows you to zone out of tints. you'll feel more lonely afterwards
  • Try not to see your loneliness as something you have to cure. Accept that this is you for now
  • Even if it’s the last thing you feel like doing, call a friend up. Talk about how you feel. Or if that’s too heavy just call them up and talk about some fun memories you’ve shared, you just might make their day
  • Remember that everyone goes through shit. Even your beautiful, married friend who has identical model twins has days she feels like a bag of shit. Just for different reasons.
  • Write down 10 reasons you are grateful to be alive and look at this list at least once a day.

Self medicating our depression or anxiety:-

Life can be tough. And if we can create pockets of ‘peace’ or ‘fun’ why the hell shouldn’t we? A glass of wine here, a Valium there. What’s a muscle relaxant between friends anyway?

Many people who suffer with undiagnosed depression or anxiety reach for alcohol or drugs to calm their nerves or relieve them of emotional pain. In other words, they self-medicate. Rather than seek out help in managing depression, anxiety or chronic resentment, they seek their own solution — a solution which, while it works pretty well for a while, eventually complicates the issues and leads to more pain.
